Home Security As You Enter and Exit

Here are a few home security tips to make that space between your driveway and front door a little bit safer. (And remember that a wireless security system with remote control can make many of these ideas a snap.)

  • Never carry handfuls that block your vision or make it hard to quickly unlock your door and enter your home. Better to take many smaller handfuls in, than a couple of large armloads that make you slower and keep you from paying attention to your surroundings.
  • Lock your car while walking back and forth to your house. Don't leave your house unlocked unless someone is attending the unlocked door.
  • When leaving your house to get in your car, look underneath your car from a distance to make \nothing unexpected (like a thief) is hiding underneath. Also, check the passenger side floor and the back seat to make sure no predators have entered your vehicle.
  • If your vehicle's trunk opens into the interior of the car, make sure to keep your trunk locked except when you're using it.
  • Buy a car with headlights that remain on for a timed period after the car is turned off. The light can help you find your way in, and also help you see anything unexpected.
  • If you travel alone, invest in some pepper spray and a flashlight to hook onto your keychain.
  • Keep your front porch light on if you think you may arrive home after dark.
  • If someone is home when you arrive, have them open the door for you, so any prowlers can see that you aren’t heading into an empty house. If nobody is home, have a trusted neighbor walk you inside if you sense a threat.

These tips will help you stay safe. The very best way to stay safe is with a wireless security system from ADT. You can get one through Protect Your Home, your local ADT authorized dealer. With an ADT alarm system, your home and family are safe. Any time you enter or exit your home, your wireless security system can be activated and deactivated with the keyless remote control. You home will be watched over 24/7 by the ADT Security monitoring center.
Remember, if you don’t feel safe, it may not be a safe situation. Protect yourself by following your instincts.
